Mom's making me crazy....

....again. I dunno if she just doesn't think before she speaks or what. I love her very much and I am so thankful that they can watch Aidan, but last night I called when we got out of work to let them know that we would be a little later then usual, had to let the car warm up (18 degrees outside, holy cow) and we need to stop and pick up milk on the way home and get gas. While on the phone with her she managed to insult me yet again. Here is what happened...
Mom: I've been meaning to ask you.... (insert long pause here)
Me: Yes?
Mom: Do you all spank this baby a lot? (the tone of voice was like; are you abusing my grandbaby?)
Me: excuse me?? (dumbfounded, disbelief, big long shocked silence)
Me: are you serious?
Mom: Well he comes over here and he takes all his frustration out on us, he's always hitting us....
Me: No we don't spank him a lot, and no he doesn't hit us. (anger kicked in I've got a short fuse still from the last time she irked me) Don't worry about it, I'll be quitting in a few months and you won't have to watch him anymore..
Mom: No, no! That's not what I'm saying , you're taking it the wrong way.
Me: How was I supposed to take it, Ma? You just asked me if we're always spanking him, what kind of question is that?
Mom: Well I didn't mean it like that.... (silence) be careful coming home....
that's pretty much where the conversation ended, after we said our goodbyes. I just don't know what to think anymore. She's always asking if we let him run wild at home, I tell her no, he behaves for the most part at home. I've seen first hand how crazy he is over there and let me tell you I wasn't impressed. He's like a different child, running around, screeching like a mad man. And they just let him. It's nuts. I just don't know what to say or think anymore. Any suggestions? What would you do?

Felicia,
I don't know what to tell you. I have the same problem with my father-in-law. The only difference is that he lives with me. I am going crazy too. He takes care of Dana and tells me that I don't know what I am doing. So far the only thing that I can do is walk away. Let me know if you think of anything.

Felicia, I don't know what to tell you I go through the same thing with my father-in-law. The only difference is that he lives with me. He watches Dana while Rick and I go to school and work. He tells me everyday that I don't know what I am doing and that I don't know how to take care of my family. The only thing I can do is walk away. Let me know if you figure anything out.

Well..there are lots of htings that come to my hot-headed mind, but none of them would help you and face it, on the shift you are working, it's not as if you have a lot of choices. I guess my best advice is TRY to say as little as possible, and PRAY that these last few months before you quit are quick and as painless as possible. I'll say some prayers for you. I could never do anything right for my mil, either, and we lived with them...so dont' feel alone. This, too, shall pass, my dear!

Hi,
first I have to say that your home blog had me crying again. Miss you too!
Next, maybe if you told your mom exactly what you and Ian do when Aidan is getting wild (read to him, put on a quiet movie, rock him for a nap) it would help her see what she should do. That's IF she'll listen to you.
